Ms Shirley Beglinger

Shirley Beglinger started her career at Credit Suisse in Zurich as a fixed income trader before moving into private banking. In 1984 she joined GAM Global Asset Management – subsequently taken over by UBS – in fund management. She joined Swiss Re in 1988 and gathered ample experience in both insurance and reinsurance practice. From 1995 she specialised in all types of Financial Institutions underwriting. Shirley spearheaded Swiss Re’s efforts to gain recognition in the Basel 2 process for insurance as a mitigant of operational risk. She joined Aon in 2005, leaving in 2007. She is a director of Shires Partnership Ltd, a consultancy which specialises in insurance, reinsurance and risk management. She is also non executive chairman of NPA Insurance Ltd in the UK. In 2009, she was appointed the Generali CSFI Fellow for Insurance. She has published numerous research papers and articles on insurance, its accounting issues and its regulation. Her most recent paper deals with Solvency II and its effects on the [re]insurance industry. In January 2011 she was elected Chairman of the UK Chapter of the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce.
