My research is in computational mathematics and high performance computing. Specifically, I am an expert on the rapid finite element solution of partial differential equations (PDEs), and inversion and optimisation problems subject to PDEs. My current research focusses on adjoint methods for optimisation, stability analysis, uncertainty quantification, and error estimation.

Prof Lorraine Farrelly
Professor of Architecture and Design
Lorraine Farrelly is Professor of Architecture and Design at the University of Portsmouth UK. Her research interests include a multi-disciplinary approach to architecture at various scales, through understanding ideas of interior detail to urban concepts. She has a postgraduate urban design studio , which has made mixed use and housing proposals for European sites in Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Venice, Rotterdam, London, Dublin and Segovia in Spain. As a qualified architect her own completed projects range from the interior fit-out of bars and restaurants and retail design through to individual house design, school design and public spaces. Over the past three years she have been working with the BFL Building for Life national housing awards in the UK to judge and assess housing across the South of England. Also this year she is part of the judging panel for design of innovative public space in the South of England. She is director of research in architecture and design at her University and is actively developing new models for research working with commercial practices, property developers and business in the city to partner new initiatives to develop inward investment in the city to generate employment opportunities particularly regenerating buildings for new use. She is an advisor for architectural education and works with the RIBA on international validation and has validated courses across Europe and South America . She has written many books and academic articles, her most recent publications are 'Drawing for Urban Design' 2011 Laurence King Publishers, 'Materials and the Interior' 2012 Laurence King Publishers and 'Fundamentals of Architecture' 2012 AVA publishers . She was appointed honorary Professor at Deakin University in 2011.

He is also a specialist in the study of fascism more generally, and has published widely on this subject in academic and popular outlets. Dr Feldman has also consulted widely as an expert witness and media subject on the subject of far-right terrorism. Other academic and public-facing expertise also includes research on the Holocaust, modernist literature and culture, Samuel Beckett, Ezra Pound and other canonical 20th century artistic figures.

Previously Chief Strategist at Pali International, he has over 25 years’ experience as a stockbroker, sector analyst and macro-economic strategist. James has held a number of positions, predominantly covering the Japanese market at investment banks Nomura, Robert Fleming, SBC Warburg, Dresdner Kleinwort and Mitsubishi Securities, based in London and Tokyo. Japanese background especially pertinent today: James is currently looking at the western banking crisis and the implications of policy responses for economic growth prospects. James believes that an appreciation of the Japanese experience highlights the challenges and pitfalls that lie ahead as developed economies negotiate their way to a full resolution. A regular contributor to Money Week since 2004, James frequently sits on the magazine’s investment roundtable. He has made frequent appearances on BBC TV and radio news, as well as CNBC, Sky TV, Channel 4 and Bloomberg TV commenting on economic, banking and investment matters.
