Emel Aktas
Lecturer in Sustainability and Operations Management
Emel Aktas is a Lecturer of Sustainability and Operations Management at Brunel Business School. She earned her B.S., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in industrial engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. Her B.S. degree was on logistics management, her M.Sc. degree was on healthcare management, and her Ph.D. degree was on supply chain contracting. She took part as a researcher in both public and private funded projects on diverse areas such as location selection, shift scheduling or transportation master plan strategy. Her refereed articles have appeared in a variety of journals including European Journal of Operational Research, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, and Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice.

Dr Nafis Alam
Assistant Professor
Nafis Alam is an Assistant Professor at the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) in the University of Nottingham - Malaysia Campus (UNMC). Prior to this, he was attached with Monash University where he worked as lecturer in finance. Before that he worked with Multimedia University, Malaysia where he was the coordinator of the International MBA program. He has published quite extensively in the area of finance and his scholarly research has featured in leading journals like Journal of Asset Management, Journal of Banking Regulation, Journal of International Banking law & Regulation, Review of Islamic Economics; Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce and Journal of Financial Services Marketing among others. He also co authored three books in Islamic Finance among them is Encyclopedia of Islamic Finance which is first of its kind and has sold over 1000 copies worldwide. Dr.Alam is also Visiting Lecturer for Durham Islamic Finance Summer School, Durham University, UK. He is reviewer for leading finance & Islamic finance journals. He has also participated in leading Islamic finance conferences worldwide among them significant was participation in Harvard Islamic Finance forum at Harvard Law School and Gulf Research Meeting at Cambridge University, UK.

Duncan Alford
Associate Dean and Professor of Law
Duncan Alford, Professor of Law, joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Law in April 2007 as Associate Dean and Director of the Law Library. Professor Alford received his J.D. with Honors from the School of Law of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he served on the North Carolina Law Review. He received his B.A. with High Distinction in Economics and French from the University of Virginia. Professor Alford also attended the University of South Carolina College of Library and Information Science graduating with a M.L.I.S. in 2001. Prior to attending law school, Professor Alford was a Business Analyst with McKinsey & Company, Inc., in Atlanta where he served clients in the telecommunications and banking industries. After graduation from law school, Professor Alford clerked for Justice Burley Mitchell of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. He then practiced corporate and banking law with Kilpatrick Stockton in Atlanta. He later joined Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A., practicing corporate and commercial real estate law in Charlotte, NC and Rock Hill, SC and was elected a partner there in 2000. Prior to joining the faculty at USC, Professor Alford served as the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services and Associate Professor of Law on the inaugural faculty of the Charlotte School of Law, in Charlotte, NC. Previously, Professor Alford was the Head of Reference and Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Law Library, Washington, D.C. He also served as the Law Librarian at Princeton University, and a Reference Librarian at the Columbia University Law Library in New York City. Professor Alford teaches first year legal research and International and Foreign Legal Research. He has published numerous articles on banking law and regulation. His research interests include international banking law and international and comparative law generally. He has held research fellowships at the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is admitted to practice in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
